Coming Home update event - 19th May
Around 120 people attended this term’s Church Housing online event on 19th May, chaired by the lead Bishop for Housing, Guli Francis-Dehqani.
Aileen Evans shared the plans for the Church Housing Association, and why even though it’s just starting up, it has a big vision. [Download Aileen’s slides]
Beki Winter introduced the services offered to parishes and dioceses by the Archbishops' Council Housing Project, including advice, small grants, and a mapping tool. [Download Beki’s slides]
Then charity lawyer Jamie Huard explained how recent changes to charity law make it easier for churches and chaities to make land available for truly affordable homes, giving specific examples of how charity trustees can approach this. [Download Jamie’s slides]
The three speakers then answered questions from the audience before Bishop Rob Wickham, CEO of the Church Urban Fund, closed the evening with a reflection about housing and mission, emphasizing the importance of creating spaces for community belonging and human flourishing. He highlighted the need for prayer and collaboration to transform communities, stressing that the work is about regeneration, not gentrification.
